In 1961, without any academic training in urban planning, Jane Jacobs published *The Death and Life of Great American Cities*: she viewed the dense, chaotic street not as an anomaly, but as the mechanism that keeps a city alive.

Gianluca Ferriero and Davide Salamino, of Lombardini22, bring this thesis to the stage at Utopian Hours with ‘La città scomoda’ — a city that embraces its own complexity rather than trying to correct it. At the heart of the talk are the invisible thresholds that determine who passes through and who is left out, including those imposed by an app that dictates what to see, what is nearby, and what is safe. Four L22 projects demonstrate how to work on these margins, towards cities that are more vibrant — not more perfect.

Davide Salamino Design Manager

Lombardini22

Davide Salamino is an architect and Design Manager at Lombardini22 in Milan. He has spent twelve years working in the French market, between Paris and Rotterdam, contributing to the establishment of MVRDV's Paris office, where he worked as project leader on iconic competitions and built projects across several French cities. His career has revolved around two recurring themes: the ability to build strong design consistency and translate it into real buildings, and the design of the public realm, from the urban square to cable-based urban ecomobility infrastructure. Today, he leads multidisciplinary technical coordination across a range of public and private commissions. The thread running through all of these projects is a single question: under what conditions can an intervention succeed in generating optimism in a community?

Gianluca Ferriero Architetto

Lombardini22

Gianluca Ferriero is trained as an architect (Seconda Università di Napoli) and is a PhD at Politecnico di Milano with the programme 'Architecture, Urban and Interior design'. He was a research assistant at "Het Nieuwe Instituut" in Rotterdam. Ferriero designed the Bio-mediterraneum cluster pavillions for Expo 2015.

His work was included in the exhibition 'Supernapoli' at Triennale di Milano in 2015. As a member of the editorial team he contributes regularly to the "Artribune" architecture section. Currently he collaborates with Lombardini22 to develop various projects on an Architecture and Urban design scale.
