City-Building: a Hands-on Approach

In modern cities, the most vulnerable sections of the population are often excluded from decisions regarding housing. The Paris-based collective Quatorze responds with a form of militant architecture, founded on solidarity and direct involvement. Co-director Romain Minod will be speaking about this on stage in Turin.

Founded in 2007, Quatorze works in the fields of urban regeneration, supported self-build and social inclusion. Minod and his team do not design for vulnerable communities, but work side by side with them — refugees, residents in precarious circumstances, local stakeholders — on co-construction projects. Through carpentry workshops and small-scale interventions, Quatorze fosters new bottom-up governance dynamics, restoring dignity and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
