Philipp Rode

Executive Director, LSE Cities

Since 2003, Philipp Rode has been working at the London School of Economics as a researcher, advisor and coordinator of interdisciplinary study projects on city administration, mobility, urban planning and city design. He is currently executive director of LSE Cities, co-director of the Executive MSc in Cities degree programme, and also teaches a sociology class on city making.

Rode co-directed the working group on cities of the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate that preceded the 2015 Paris Climate Conference of the United Nations. In 2000 he was awarded the Schinkel Urban Design Prize and he recently wrote the book ‘Governing Compact Cities: How to connect planning, design and transport’ (Elgar 2018).
