Africa’s first Chief Heat Officer
The pioneer in the fight against climate change comes from Sierra Leone. Eugenia Kargbo shares the challenges of a crucial role in saving the future of the planet.
It is not the first time that a new job title has been introduced at Utopian Hours to change the way cities are perceived and governed. The work of a Chief Heat Officer like Eugenia Kargbo, however, requires that we widen the spectrum and look beyond cities.
Kargbo is the first in Africa to take up this position, in a scenario that requires swift and decisive action to counter the most urgent phenomena of the climate crisis.
After experience as a consultant in various sectors -from health to data analysis-, Kargbo is now one of the main protagonists in the implementation of the Climate Action Plan in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone where she lives and works. She was responsible for the idea of the Heat Season Campaign, an initiative that combines dissemination activities and concrete actions to tackle the issue of rising temperatures on our planet.
