Visiting Urban Explorer #1

Visiting Urban Explorer #1

The 8th edition of the festival updates the format of the Visiting Urban Explorer: no longer architects and urban planners — this year, it’s the photographers’ turn. The first to be featured is Daniel Rodrigues from Porto
The Visiting Urban Explorer program is one of the most appreciated formats of Utopian Hours. It’s inspired by the concept of artist residencies and invites three young experts—visiting Turin for the first time—to freely explore the city. Their task is to propose ideas, insights, and suggestions for imagining new, possible urban solutions.
In 2024, the VUE will all be photography experts. The three photographers will explore Turin, using their images to capture phenomena, cultures, dynamics, and the potential of the city’s lesser-known areas. At the end of their exploration, they will take the stage to share their findings.
The first of the Visiting Urban Explorers to take the stage at Centrale Lavazza will be Daniel Rodrigues, a reporter for outlets such as The New York Times and an explorer accustomed to working in highly complex environments: from the Iron Train in Mauritania (the most dangerous train in the world) to the war in Ukraine, as well as his expeditions in Africa and the Amazon rainforest.
This year, the Visiting Urban Explorer format is part of Urban Frame, a project funded by the “Torino, che cultura!” grant and born from the collaboration between Stratosferica and Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia.
