MIT’s Secret Formula for Sustainable Materials: History + Science
From the ancient Romans the solution for stronger, cheaper and more sustainable buildings. Admir Masic anticipates the future of urban construction.
Admir Masic’s personal story is quite incredible. A troubled journey that began in the early 1990s with the escape from the Bosnian war. Then he moved, first to Croatia and then to Germany. The University in Turin and in those times the first experiments in the field of sustainable construction. Then Boston, the MIT and the launch of DMAT — the startup that produces a self-healing concrete inspired by techniques used in ancient Rome.
Masic is a scientist, an entrepreneur and a passionate educator. But he doesn’t deal only with materials, chemistry and construction. In 2017 he founded the MIT Refugee Action Hub (ReACT), an in-house program at the prestigious Boston University that works to provide educational opportunities for young refugees around the world.
At Utopian Hours a special guest with whom we will discuss groundbreaking research, the future of the built environment, but also the importance of access to education in areas of the world ravaged by war and social injustices.
