Reinventing Cities: accelerating zero carbon urban development

Reinventing Cities: accelerating zero carbon urban development

Jack Murphy, executive editor of The Architect’s Newspaper, leads the first international panel of Utopian Hours 2023. At the centre of the debate is the challenge of many cities around the world to reconcile urban development with the need to lower (to zero) emissions.
Where to start? In Friday’s Utopian Hours we look for possible answers by referring to Reinventing Cities, the world’s most important “city competition”. With this initiative, C40 —in turn the international network consisting of the hundred most influential mayors on the planet— aims to transform disused buildings and spaces into sustainable urban projects that meet the needs of communities and serve as an example for zero-emission cities.
The 2023 edition of Utopian Hours opens with a collective reflection with which we want to emphasise the importance of networking to respond to increasingly complex urban challenges.
