Washington’s Dream of a new Community Park
The 11th Street Bridge Park will be Washington DC's first elevated public park. The association with New York's High Line is inevitable, but here the goal is to unite local communities without giving way to speculation.
In 2026 the old abandoned bridge over the Anacostia River will be transformed into a beautiful linear public park. The design part has been entrusted to the architects and designers of the renowned OMA firm, but the real contribution comes from the people.
The residents of the neighborhoods along the banks of the river, have been involved in the journey that is defining the face of a new public space: desires, needs, potential uses and development opportunities.
A process of urban regeneration that combines community building, landscape design and economic revitalization in an area characterized by severe imbalances.
Scott Kratz -among the main initiators of the project and Vice President of Building Bridges Across the River-will bring to Utopian Hours / Milan Edition the story of this ambitious urban undertaking.
