Connecting the Dots: Cities and Forests Get Closer

Connecting the Dots: Cities and Forests Get Closer

For cities and forests to survive the epochal climate, social, and economic change of today, the communities of both ecosystems must take action and help each other. The Cities4Forests workshop is an opportunity to imagine and design new ways of interventions, campaigns, and cultural programming.
“Connecting the dots” will be hosted by Scott Francisco, co-founder of Cities4Forests, a global network that helps cities connect with forests around the world and use their influence to better conserve, manage, and restore these forests, as well as align local policy, share knowledge, and access peer-to-peer learning and communication activities to take climate action together.
After breakfast (it’s on us), the workshop kicks off by introducing the Partner Forest Program dedicated to placing cities in mutually beneficial relationships with forest areas and communities on behalf of climate, biodiversity, and social goals. This part of the workshop will highlight inspiring interventions and transformative policies from cities around the world and discuss the potential of similar actions in Turin.
Split into groups, participants will move from the ‘what?’ to the ‘how?’ of connecting global climate goals to urban climate action in Turin, working on answering some key questions: What could these connections look like? How do we tell the story in the city? What is the impact?
Taking Turin as a point of departure, each group will then spend the next three hours together each group will spend the next three hours working together to identify and design specific opportunities and interventions, campaigns, cultural programming, policy instruments and governance innovations that could help connect cities with faraway forests.
The morning will start with a complimentary welcome breakfast included in the workshop fee.
