The rise of urban campuses

The rise of urban campuses

Work, study, live and play — all in the same space. Is that an effective way to summarise the goal of urban campuses? These hybrid places, designed to accommodate different users and functions, are taking a central role in the development plans of many cities around the world.
It’s not just about offering a service to those who choose to start a new adventure in a different place. These companies offer local administrations the opportunity to enhance the potential of neglected urban areas, transforming the identity and the perception of less developed neighbourhoods.
Utopian Hours tackles this theme involving one of the main companies on an international level: The Social Hub. In Italy there are two structures currently active —Florence and Bologna— and a third will be built soon in Turin, in the Aurora district. Frank Uffen (Managing Director Community & Partnerships of The Social Hub), will bring his vision and experience to tell us more about these complex urban revitalisation projects.
